About Chris Cox

From an early age, Chris Cox was immersed in engineering, invention, and problem-solving. Growing up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he spent countless hours alongside his father learning to repair, build, and innovate. By his teenage years, he was restoring automobiles, building experimental projects, and developing the hands-on technical skills that would shape his future career.

While attending LSU, Chris worked in engineering, research and development, drafting, machining, and product design. He played a key role in the development of innovative wastewater treatment technologies, earned his first patent before the age of 20, and gained valuable experience working with emerging CAD and 3D modeling technologies. His career later included work in industrial design, nuclear facilities, process equipment development, and advanced manufacturing.

In 1990, he founded COX Research and Technology, Inc., combining his passion for engineering, invention, and manufacturing. Over the following decades, he designed and developed numerous patented products, built a nationally recognized control panel manufacturing operation, and established a reputation for solving complex industry challenges through practical innovation.

Recognizing a widespread reliability problem within the wastewater industry, Chris developed the groundbreaking OPTI-FLOAT®, a patented fiber-optic level detection system designed to eliminate the common failure points found in traditional float switches. Today, OPTI-FLOAT® products are used throughout the United States and internationally, helping municipalities, contractors, and utilities improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs.

With more than 35 years of experience in engineering, product development, manufacturing, and process automation, Chris and the COX Research® team continue to lead innovation through a combination of creativity, technical expertise, and a lifelong passion for invention. His work has resulted in numerous patents, industry-leading technologies, and solutions that have improved operations for customers across the country and around the world.
